Grecian Lace is setting pods like crazy this year which is a very pleasant surprise.

I have not really been taking the crosses seriously since I did not expect pods, but here is what pollen donors have set pods so far:

Skylight
Zounds
Centerfold
Aspen Gold
Empress Wu
Solar Flare
tokadama aureonebulosa
Krugerrand
Foxy Doxy
More Elegant
and some OP

Not much thought to the crosses but I might try and grow them.

My Grecian Lace opened it's first flower this morning and if I remember correctly I tried a Sunpower X Komodo Dragon seedling on it. It is the plants first scape and I will have very limited flowers to work with and the only pollen I have saved that set pods for you is Aspen Gold. I heard this one is difficult and didn't know if it set pods and aborted them later or was just difficult to set pods on--I have no previous experience with it. Glad to see you are having success with it. I told Linda that it was difficult but my intent was not to miss a flower on it. It looks to have awesome breeder potential if it works.

Sadly, during the hot spell, it aborted almost all of its pods.

Here is how it finished.

Grecian Lace

3 scapes - 77 flowers
5 pods - 6% pod set

Successful pods

Summer Olympics - 2
Ayers Rock - 2
montana aureomarginata - 1

**- I expected none so this is better then nothing.

Speaking of aborting pods, are you using 'Galaxy' this year Jeff?

Jeff, my Grecian Lace faired a bit better this year. It set 17 pod from about 60 flowers. Seems to like some direct sun and of course, lots of water. Some pods are white, others light green so will give them all a try this winter (both planned crosses and some OP).

Galaxy here had several scapes, 0 pods set. That one certainly didn't like the heat spells.

Interesting how things work in different parts of the country. My Grecian Lace aborted all of the set pods during the hot spell, and as you may know Iowa has been getting plenty of water this year. It was a first year to flower plant and although the flowers were limited (one small scape) it set pods on most and later lost them. My Galaxy's on the other hand were one of the few that set OP's regularly during the heat when I gave up on it thinking the heat was too much for the effort, and last I checked 90%+ of the set pods were still hanging on. Seems like 10 days or so of heat indicies approaching or exceeding 100 degrees but plenty of rain. Go figure.

I had got pods from 'Grecian Lace' in past years but never a seedling. I do not have 'Grecian Lace' anymore here in the gardens, it left with many others this year to a new home. My garden has changed lots this year with much more to get done. I decided to do away with the collection and plant many more of my own plants in there spots,
